BACOLOD City — The local government unit (LGU) here has increased its financial support to uniformed personnel assigned in the city, granting an additional P2,000 monthly allowance to more than 1,000 members of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Mayor Greg Gasataya announced during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, January 5, that the increased allowance took effect starting this month of January.
The increase also extends to eligible personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) stationed in the city.
BCPO City Director Col. Joeresty Coronica said the increase amounts to an additional ₱500 on top of the previous allowance, and expressed gratitude for the continued support of the city government.
“We are, of course, thankful for this increase,” Coronica said.
The monthly allowance underscores the city government’s strengthened commitment to recognize and support frontliners tasked with maintaining public safety.
“You all carry the weight of our safety, for which we are deeply thankful,” Mayor Gasataya said, stressing the vital role of uniformed personnel in safeguarding the community.
Apart from the allowance increase, the city government continues to provide substantial institutional support to the BCPO, allocating P20.5 million annually to fund peace and order programs.
The funding covers improvements in police mobility, logistical requirements, anti-criminality operations, and efforts to enhance crime prevention and case-solving capabilities.
Coronica welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant morale booster for police personnel.
“This is a big boost that could raise the morale and welfare of our policemen,” he said, noting that the city’s assistance has been instrumental in sustaining daily operations, including repairs, maintenance, and other logistical needs.
For years, the BCPO has relied on the continued backing of the city government to strengthen peace and order initiatives, a partnership city officials say will remain a priority in ensuring a safer Bacolod for all./PN
