LAUGHTER, memories, and shared pride filled the halls of St. Paul University Iloilo as Paulinians from near and far returned for the 76th Grand Alumni Homecoming — a celebration not just of time passed, but of bonds that continue to grow stronger.
Organized by the St. Paul University Iloilo Alumni Association (SPUIAA) under the leadership of its president, Jaresh Ng, the homecoming carried the theme “One God, One Country, One Paulinian Family,” a message that has guided the alumni association for the past five years and continues to anchor its mission of unity and service.
“This theme is our guiding star,” Ng shared. “For five years already, we have maintained ‘One God, One Country, One Paulinian Family’ because we know that in unity, there is strength. Now in our sixth year, this principle continues to guide everything we do.”
The celebration opened with a recollection led by Fr. Joel Eslabra, inviting alumni to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their roots. From there, participants took part in a City of Love Tour around the City Proper district, rediscovering the landmarks, history, and culture that shaped their college years.
University President Sr. Teresita Baricua, SPC, warmly welcomed the returning Paulinians, expressing hope that the homecoming would strengthen relationships between alumni, students, and the university community. Her message resonated with the alumni’s shared desire to give back to the institution that helped form them.
The day’s festivities continued with a lively dance presentation and the awarding of medals to jubilarians, culminating in the Paulinian White Party that set a joyful tone for the celebration. The homecoming reached its highlight with the Grand Gala Night on January 17, themed “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” honoring jubilarians and guests in an evening of elegance and gratitude.
For Ng, the homecoming is also a reminder of the vital role alumni play in shaping the university’s future.
“The alumni are the bloodline of every university,” he said. “That is why the St. Paul University Alumni Association will always work hand in hand with the school administration. We make sure our alumni are involved in school projects and activities, and at the same time they stay connected to the association.”
He acknowledged the challenges of rebuilding momentum after the pandemic but credited the alumni’s generosity and commitment for keeping the Paulinian spirit alive.
“It is very challenging, especially after the pandemic, on how we can support both the school and the alumni association,” Ng said. “But thank God, because of the big hearts of our alumni, they still come home to our alma mater. They continue to give their support, and that is why we remain united.”
More than a reunion, the 76th Grand Alumni Homecoming stands as a reaffirmation of faith, service, and shared identity. It is a celebration of where Paulinians have been — and a reminder that wherever life takes them, there will always be a place to come home to./PN
