CAPIZ — A 31-year-old man’s attempt to steal three wallets and cellphones was foiled on January 18 when he was chased down by restaurant staff and cornered by bystanders in Barangay Baybay, Roxas City.
The suspect, identified by the alias “Michael,” a resident of the city’s Barangay Dumulog, targeted two customers of a local Chinese restaurant, 38-year-old “Niel” and 37-year-old “Tomas,” both from Barangay Inzo Arnaldo.
According to the Roxas City Police Station, the victims left their belongings unattended on their table while enjoying the sea breeze outside the restaurant. Michael seized the opportunity to snatch the items, but his actions were noticed by restaurant crew member “Arthur,” who quickly raised the alarm.
Other staff and nearby patrons immediately joined the pursuit, apprehending the suspect a short distance from the restaurant.
Authorities later confirmed the recovery of three wallets, including one containing P12,000 and several U.S. dollars, as well as a cellphone.
Michael was taken into custody and transported to the Roxas City Police Station, where he is expected to face charges of theft.
