ILOILO City – Security operations for the Dinagyang Festival have shifted into full implementation mode with the deployment of 7,579 security personnel across the city, following the formal send-off and declaration of mission readiness for the Site Task Group (TG) Dinagyang yesterday, January 21.
The massive security force, led by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) in coordination with Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), covers layered operations ranging from crowd control and traffic management to emergency response and peace-and-order enforcement.
Of the total manpower, 2,167 personnel were assigned to Sub-Task Group Security, 1,605 to Peace and Order, 877 to Traffic Management, 655 to Emergency Preparedness and Response, 78 under command and control, and 2,197 force multipliers drawn from partner agencies and volunteer groups.
Authorities have also readied 2,823 operational resources for deployment throughout the city.
ICPO director and TG Dinagyang commander Colonel Wilbert Parilla said the send-off was “a moment of commitment” to public safety as Iloilo braces for the influx of festivalgoers and foreign visitors.
“We collectively say to the people of Iloilo and to all our visitors: Dinagyang 2026 will be safe, peaceful, and worthy of its global reputation,” Parilla said.
He reminded personnel that their role goes beyond enforcement, stressing service, discipline, and vigilance during the week-long celebration.
“You are not just enforcers of the law — you are guardians of the celebration, silent protectors behind every smile, every beat of the drum, and every prayer offered during this festival,” he added.
For her part, Mayor Raisa Treñas issued a warning to individuals planning to disrupt peace and order.
“Let me be clear that anyone who deliberately causes trouble during Dinagyang will face immediate consequences. We will not hesitate to enforce the law and take action against those who refuse to follow the rules,” Treñas said.
The mayor also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcers and force multipliers, stressing that discipline and collective responsibility are essential to a safe and enjoyable Dinagyang.
Aside from Mayor Treñas who reaffirmed the city government’s full backing of security preparations, the send-off ceremony was also attended by key festival and government stakeholders, including businessman Judgee Lopez Peña, chair of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc.; and Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, representing Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.
Also present was Colonel Arpha Abul Kyr Macalangcom Jr., deputy task group commander, representing PRO-6 director Lieutenant General Josefino Ligan.
Authorities said security coverage will remain heightened throughout the Dinagyang period, particularly during major events and highlights, to ensure an orderly, peaceful, and enjoyable festival for Ilonggos and visitors alike./PN
