ILOILO City — Dinagyang Festival 2026 stood as a powerful manifestation of “One Iloilo, One Dinagyang.” It has proven again that when the city and the province move as one, the celebration — and the people — rise together.
Drawing an estimated total crowd of 350,000, the festival delivered record attendance, vibrant performances, and zero major security incidents, underscoring effective coordination, discipline, and unity among Ilonggos.
Capping the celebrations, the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand drew nearly 73,000 attendees during the awarding ceremony and in nearby areas, according to Security Task Group (STG) Dinagyang 2026 figures as of 12 a.m. on January 26.
City and provincial officials lauded the smooth flow of activities, strong crowd management, and generally peaceful atmosphere, further cementing Dinagyang’s reputation as one of the country’s premier and world-class cultural festivals.
Mayor Raisa S. Treñas, in her message, highlighted that Dinagyang has grown beyond a spectacle of drums, dances, and colors, becoming a unifying force and a key driver of progress for Iloilo.
“Beyond the drums, the dances, and the vibrant colors, Dinagyang plays a vital role in the life of our city. It is a powerful engine of tourism and economic activity,” Treñas said.
“Every year, thousands of visitors come to Iloilo — filling our hotels, supporting our restaurants, boosting local businesses, and creating livelihood opportunities for performers, artisans, vendors, transport workers, and many others. Dinagyang is one of the reasons Iloilo is what it is today,” she added.
For Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr., the success of Dinagyang 2026 affirmed that the One Iloilo concept is no longer just an aspiration, but a necessity.
For third year in a row, Iloilo Province successfully managed the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan.
Defensor stressed the inseparable relationship between the city and the province.
“The tourism of Iloilo City is the tourism of Iloilo Province, and the tourism of Iloilo Province is the tourism of Iloilo City. We are one,” Defensor said. “The economy of the city is the economy of the province, and the economy of the province is the economy of the city.”
Mayor Treñas also underscored that while Dinagyang continues to innovate and gain global recognitions — including being named Best Cultural Festival at the ATOP Pearl Awards and winning Best Overall Entertainment Program and Best Dynamic Festival 2025 at an international festivals and events awards in Korea — its soul remains firmly rooted in faith.
“At its core, Dinagyang has always been — and will always be — an expression of our unwavering faith and deep devotion to Señor Santo Niño. This is our panata, our solemn vow, and our expression of gratitude for His continued blessings and guidance to our beloved city,” she said.
City and provincial leaders agreed that the strengthened partnership aims to ensure that Iloilo City’s growth cascades to the municipalities, creating more jobs, wider opportunities, and more inclusive development across the province. The unified approach, they said, is key to powering Iloilo’s continued progress.
Dinagyang 2026 also drew high-ranking national officials, including Sen. Risa Hontiveros, who expressed pride in the festival’s artistry and spirit.
“Tahum gid sang performances sa #DinagyangFestival! As an Ilongga, I can’t help but be so proud!!” Hontiveros said.
Sen. Bam Aquino, who thanked Mayor Treñas and former Mayor Jerry Treñas for the invitation, shared his appreciation for the warm Ilonggo welcome.
“Always a pleasure to be back in Iloilo. Salamat gid sa mainit nga pagbaton, and we truly enjoyed our Dinagyang 2026 experience,” Aquino said.
“Makakaasa ang mga Ilonggo na buo ang suporta ko at ng aking opisina sa mga programang makakatulong sa lalawigan ng Iloilo—lalo na pagdating sa edukasyon,” he added.
DINAGYANG 2026 WINNERS
Leading the prestigious Dinagyang Tribes Competition, Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School emerged as champion. Placing first runner-up was Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School, followed by second runner-up Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School. Tribu Taga-Baryo sang Barangay Bo. Obrero, Lapuz secured the third runner-up position.
In the Kasadyahan, which celebrates the rich culture and festivals of Iloilo’s municipalities, the Tultugan Festival of Maasin claimed the championship title. The Kahilwayan Festival of Sta. Barbara finished as first runner-up, while the Kasag Festival of Banate earned second runner-up honors.
Meanwhile, Banaag Festival of Anilao topped the ILOmination Streetdance Competition, Tribu Parianon emerged champion in Sadsad sa Calle Real, Sagility claimed the Floats Parade of Lights, and Jollibee Foods Corporation was named grand winner of the Festive Parade Sponsors’ Mardi Gras, capping off a highly competitive and vibrant Dinagyang 2026.
SCHOOL PROJECTS AS ADDITIONAL PRIZES
Beyond cash prizes, Mayor Treñas announced that winning and participating tribes of Dinagyang Tribes Competition will receive additional school support projects, including ₱10 million worth of projects for the grand champion, ₱3 million for the first runner-up, ₱2 million for the second runner-up, and ₱1 million for the third runner-up. All participating tribes will also receive a ₱500,000 consolation prize in recognition of their dedication and hard work.
The city mayor thanked all partners, from security personnel to volunteers, for another successful Dinagyang. She also expressed gratitude to the tribes, sponsors, production teams, media partners, and everyone who came to Iloilo City to join the festivities.
With record-breaking attendance, strong security, and renewed unity between the city and the province, Dinagyang 2026 closed not just as a celebration, but as a clear statement: Iloilo is strongest when it moves forward together — one people, one faith, one Dinagyang./PN
