MANILA — Malacañang said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will leave it to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to decide whether to continue its work or formally end its mandate, as the Palace awaits the commission’s final report on alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President will not intervene in the commission’s internal deliberations, underscoring that the ICI operates independently of the executive branch.
“Ang kapalaran po ng ICI ay nasa pagdedesisyon mismo ng ICI,” Castro said during a press briefing.
She said Marcos will respect whatever course the commission takes, while assuring that the executive branch stands ready to provide assistance if requested.
“Ang sabi po niya, ang ICI daw po ay isang independent body independent commission. Kung ano po ang magiging desisyon ng ICI, ‘yun po ang maaaring maging tugon ng Pangulo,” Castro said.
“Kung kinakailangan nila ng tulong sa executive, ibibigay po. Pero kung ano po ang magiging destiny ng ICI, kung ano ang magiging susunod na mga galaw nila, iyan po ay ipinauubaya ng Pangulo sa ICI bilang independent commission,” she added.
Castro said the President is awaiting the commission’s complete report on questionable flood control projects before any further government action is considered.
She also encouraged ICI officials to directly communicate with the President to clarify issues and submit recommendations consistent with the commission’s mandate.
“Siguro po mas maganda kung makakapagbigay sila nang complete report patungkol sa kanilang natapos para po mapag-usapan kung ano pa po talaga ang gusto ng ICI,” Castro said.
