ILOILO – An alleged long-standing debt turned deadly on Tuesday morning, February 10, after a couple working as fishpond caretakers was shot in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Ajuy town.
Ajuy police said the 64-year-old alias “Isoy” died on the spot after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to the head. His 59-year-old wife, alias “Ellen,” sustained injuries to her hand and foot, and was in stable condition at the hospital as of press time.
According to Police Captain Aileen Lacrite, chief of the Ajuy Municipal Police Station (MPS), the victims and the suspect identified as alias “Doy” were seen having a discussion near the fishpond. The situation, Lacrite said, escalated abruptly when the suspect opened fire on the couple at around 9 a.m.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident. Ajuy police were conducting hot pursuit operations.
The police were also looking into an unsettled debt owed by the victims to the suspect as the primary motive behind the attack./PN
