ILOILO City – Waiting sheds in Iloilo City are getting a makeover as the Iloilo City Government, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), and Boysen Philippines launched Project I-SHED on February 27.
MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro graced the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with Mayor Raisa Treñas and Engineer Keith Insular of Boysen Philippines, which marks the first of 48 more waiting sheds that await repair.
Roofs were repaired, repainted, and lighting fixtures were installed. The project aims to beautify and brighten these sheds when students and ordinary folks take shelter from the sun and rain.
“Gusto ko magpasalamat sa MORE Power for this milestone. Sa ila nga milestone nga six years, waay gid nila ginkalimtan nga maghatag sang isa man ka manani nga project, ini ang lighting of 48 wating sheds dire sa syudad sang Iloilo. Ang lighting nga ini, indi lang repainting sang aton mga waiting sheds, ini isa ka simbolo nga ang MORE Power together with Iloilo City Government naga-continue to grow and progress together,” said Treñas.
The city mayor added: “Kun may mga bisita dire sa Iloilo City isa lang ginahambal ko, the growth of this city is because of MORE Power. Waay kita naka-attract sang investors kag wala nag desider ang mga investors kun waay kita stable and affordable power dire sa Iloilo City. On behalf of Iloilo City Government, of the Ilonggos, salamat gid, MORE Power, and I wish MORE Power to have more projects here in Iloilo not only in the city but the whole province kay nakita gid naton ano ang maka-benefit kun may ara sang isa ka MORE Power nga naging partner para sa progress kag development sa syudad kag probinsya.”
MORE Power also guaranteed to put up benches on these facilities.
“When we enter, we’d like to be a partner, we’d like to be a contributor, not only to bring electricity, but really to bring progress and to partner with the things that the city needs. I remember six years ago, when we entered, we made that commitment and I am so happy that that commitment has been met, but we are even going beyond, we’re going way, way beyond. Although we’re done with the five-year development plan, we are actually going to enhance and make it into a very modern, smart city grid distribution system and we think that this is really our contribution to bringing economic development in the areas that we enter. Because we know other than electricity, there are other services that are needed,” Castro stated.
He further said: “We will continue to do dispersals of fingerlings in Iloilo River; mangrove tree growing; urban farming which just this week, we also had the Farmers Congress. This time, it’s the I-SHED and we saw that there are 48 that we can rehabilitate and make it a part of the city’s services to the constituents. I would like to thank the city through Mayor Raisa Treñas for being partners with us. And we will continue this partnership together because we can do much, much more for the city.”
Based on the Memorandum of Agreement, MORE Power will take charge of the repairs including the materials, Boysen Philippines sponsors the paint, while Iloilo City Government will take charge of the maintenance and electrical consumption.
Aside from providing relief during the wet and dry seasons, the brighter sheds will also provide safety for students at night once the project is completed./PN
