SAN JUAN, Metro Manila – Akari Power Chargers bounced back from a slow start and powered their way to a third straight victory, defeating Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17, in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference Saturday night at the Playtime FilOil Centre.
Anchored by a rock-solid floor defense from libero Justine Jazareno, the Power Chargers overcame a first-set setback and seized control of the next three frames to climb to a 3-3 win-loss record in the standings.
Jazareno delivered a defensive masterclass and was named Player of the Game after recording 17 excellent digs and three excellent receptions, helping stabilize Akari’s reception and transition plays throughout the contest.
Jazareno said the team remained determined to sustain its energy from start to finish, stressing that a dip in intensity could have allowed the Solar Spikers to take control of the match.
“I think we worked hard for this three to four sets, kasi hindi puwedeng bumaba ‘yung energy namin kasi mahihirapan kami eh,” said Jazareno.
After dropping the opening set, Akari regrouped behind its improved defensive coverage and sharper offensive rhythm to seize momentum in the next three sets and close out the match.
The loss dropped the Solar Spikers to a 3-4 record in the team standings.
In the other match, Creamline Cool Smashers survived a gritty challenge from the Nxled Chameleons to escape with a 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10 victory.
Negrense Bernadeth Pons led Creamline’s charge with 18 points as the Cool Smashers stretched their winning run to five games and improved to a 5-1 slate.
Jessica Galanza spearheaded the offense with 19 points and earned Player of the Game honors, while Diana Carlos and Jeanette Panaga contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Nxled, meanwhile, suffered its fourth straight loss and slipped to a 3-4 mark despite a game-high 28 points from Brooke Van Sickle./PN
