ILOILO City — Police arrested former Calinog, Iloilo mayor Salvador “Badong” Divinagracia Jr. following an alleged hit-and-run incident in New Lucena town on Sunday night, March 15.
The 19-year-old “Ian”, a resident of Barangay Damires in the town, died of head injuries when his motorcycle was allegedly struck by a pickup truck in Barangay Pasil.
According to Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office, the pick-up was intercepted in Iloilo City.
“Our personnel from Iloilo City Mobile Force Company were able to intercept the pick-up at the Ungka Flyover,” Sangrines said.
The interception was carried out by members of the Iloilo City Police Office through its mobile force unit after authorities received reports about the fleeing vehicle.
Police said the interception was effected at around 10 p.m. beneath the Ungka Flyover in Pavia town.
Initial investigation indicated that the victim was on his way home when the pickup truck allegedly struck his motorcycle. The impact threw the victim off the vehicle.
Police also received reports that the pickup truck allegedly figured in another collision in Jaro, Iloilo City prompting a response from the city’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.
One complainant said the pickup truck repeatedly flashed its headlights behind their vehicle in Pototan, prompting them to pull over.
Another reportedly similar incident was reported in Zarraga town.
After the interception, Divinagracia was brought to the New Lucena Municipal Police Station for proper investigation and documentation.
