CAPIZ — The Department of Education (DepEd) formally opened the National Festival of Talents (NFOT) 2026 on April 19 at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center in Roxas City, Capiz, drawing delegates from all 18 regions across the country.
The annual gathering brought together students, coaches, and officials to celebrate creativity, innovation, and excellence through a wide range of artistic and academic competitions.
DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara delivered the keynote address, commending the City Government of Roxas and the Province of Capiz for their warm hospitality and efficient hosting of the national event.
“I have seen the sincere welcome of the local government and the people, which has provided a comfortable and positive experience for our participants from different regions,” Angara said, as he lauded the collaborative efforts behind the festival’s organization.
Anchored on the theme “Embracing Change, Redefining Excellence,” NFOT 2026 aims to cultivate creativity, resilience, and adaptability among participants.
The four-day festival, set from April 19 to 22, features competitions in various disciplines across 18 venues in Roxas City, highlighting students’ talents while promoting critical thinking and innovation.
Angara emphasized that the festival goes beyond competition, describing it as a transformative experience for the youth.
“What truly matters is the process,” he said, encouraging participants to value learning and personal growth over winning.
The opening ceremony was marked by a colorful parade of delegates, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage and the artistic flair of participating students.
Among those present were Cristito Eco and Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, both of whom expressed appreciation for the strong support from local stakeholders and the active participation of all regions.
Dadivas highlighted the significance of hosting the national event, noting that it underscores the city’s capability to handle large-scale gatherings while promoting Roxasnon hospitality.
“This is not just a competition, but an opportunity to showcase our city as a hub for talent and culture,” he said.
Representing Capiz Gov. Fredenil Castro, Atty. Arthur John “Ike” Biñas underscored the role of education and talent development as foundations of progress for both the province and the nation.
The ceremony also featured the recitation of the NFOT Creed by learner-participants, reinforcing unity and commitment, followed by the ceremonial display of the DepEd flag and NFOT banners to officially open the festival.
