CAPIZ — The Roxas City government is set to implement a zero-tolerance policy against illegal drugs through a proposed ordinance mandating drug testing for all local government officials and employees.
Councilor Fernando Luis Viterbo, in a local radio interview, said the measure marks the first time such a policy will be enforced in the city.
Under the proposal, mandatory drug testing will be conducted randomly and will cover all officials, including barangay leaders within the city.
Viterbo stressed the importance of public officials setting a good example, particularly in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Barangay officials and government employees found to be using illegal substances may face administrative sanctions, including possible dismissal from service.
The ordinance aims to promote a drug-free environment, safeguard the community, and strengthen integrity in public service.
Meanwhile, employees of the Roxas City government have expressed readiness to comply with the proposed measure.
Melvin Galagate, head of the Roxas City Communications Group, voiced support for the initiative in a separate interview, describing it as a positive step toward reinforcing discipline and accountability in government.
He said the measure forms part of the city’s broader anti-drug campaign aimed at protecting both employees and the public from the harmful effects of illegal drug use.
Galagate also reminded residents that involvement in illegal drugs poses serious risks to health and well-being.
