ILOILO City – To strengthen traffic law enforcement and address congestion on the city’s major roads, 71 Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) personnel underwent deputation seminar conducted in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently at Camp Achilles D. Plagata on General Luna Street here.
The training formed part of the police office’s push to expand the number of personnel authorized to assist in traffic management, particularly during rush hours and in congestion-prone areas across Iloilo City.
Participants included personnel from Police Stations 1 to 10, the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company, Mobile Patrol Unit, and Traffic Enforcement Unit. The activity was facilitated by Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael Patosa, chief of the Traffic Enforcement Unit.
The participants underwent comprehensive lectures on road safety conducted by Bernard Bacay, driving skills rater, and Gemmuel Eola, application support staff, both from the Traffic Safety Unit of LTO Region 6.
The seminar also included neuro-psychiatric and medical examinations to determine the readiness and qualification of personnel for deputized functions.
ICPO director Colonel Wilbert Parilla said the initiative is part of the police office’s continuing efforts to strengthen traffic law enforcement capabilities among its personnel.
“This is also to equip our deputized personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively enforce traffic laws and promote road safety within Iloilo City. This is somehow help traffic decongestion especially rush hours,” Parilla said.
Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Colonel Lindley Barrientos, deputy city director for administration, underscored the importance of continuous capability-building among police personnel.
“Through this deputation seminar, we are enhancing not only our competence but also our responsibility to ensure safer roads for the public. Well-trained personnel translate to more effective traffic enforcement and better service to our community,” Barrientos said./PN
