CAPIZ — The No. 9 most wanted person in Capiz Province, who is facing two counts of statutory rape, voluntarily surrendered to the Sigma Municipal Police Station (MPS) on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Jus,” 33, a college graduate and a resident of Calatrava, Romblon, surrendered at around 1 p.m. at the Sigma MPS in Poblacion Norte, Sigma, Capiz.
Police said the accused had been working as a technical support personnel for an internet service provider and was temporarily residing in Sigma with his live-in partner when the alleged offenses were committed.
The warrant of arrest against the suspect was issued on November 4, 2021, by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 21, in Mambusao, Capiz, for two counts of statutory rape. The court did not recommend bail for his temporary liberty.
Police Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño, acting regional director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), commended the Sigma Municipal Police Station and the community for their cooperation, which he said contributed to the suspect’s voluntary surrender.
“The voluntary surrender of this wanted person reflects the growing trust and cooperation between the community and the police. It shows that through sustained police presence, active community engagement, and public support, individuals with standing warrants can be encouraged to peacefully submit themselves to the legal process,” Tuaño said.
He described the surrender as a shared accomplishment for law enforcement authorities and the community in promoting justice, public safety, and the rule of law.
Tuaño also encouraged other wanted persons to voluntarily surrender and face the charges against them.
“We continue to call on individuals with standing warrants to cooperate with authorities and allow the courts to resolve their cases through due process. PRO-6 remains committed to upholding the rule of law while ensuring that justice is served and public safety is protected,” he said.
The accused is currently under the custody of the Sigma Municipal Police Station for documentation and processing before being turned over to the court that issued the warrant.
PRO-6 said it will continue to intensify its manhunt operations and strengthen police-community partnerships as part of its campaign to apprehend wanted persons and maintain peace and order in Western Visayas./PN
