ACTRESS Sunshine Cruz is set to make her return to acting after taking a step back from showbiz for the past three years due to her battle with myasthenia gravis.

In a recent Instagram post, Sunshine shared that she had turned down several projects over the years to prioritize her health and recovery.

“For 3 years, I’ve declined movies and projects due to my myasthenia gravis. Grateful to always be considered, but I didn’t want to burden the prod if my AI suddenly flares up, so I opted to focus on my health journey instead,” Sunshine wrote.

According to the Mayo Clinic website, Myasthenia gravis is a condition that occurs when communication between nerves and muscles breaks down, causing muscles to feel weak and tire quickly.

Despite still being on her recovery journey, Sunshine revealed that she recently received medical clearance from her neurologist, allowing her to accept a new acting project.

“Few weeks ago, I got a call to guest in a series. My Neuro gave me a clearance,” she added.

The actress also expressed excitement about working on the upcoming project, particularly because it will give her the opportunity to collaborate with someone she has long wanted to work with.

“Excited to be a part of a series of this actor who I have been wanting to work with. Health still comes first but 2 days of taping wouldn’t hurt,” she said.

Her last television series was “Unbreak My Heart” in 2023.

During a fashion event in 2025, Sunshine first opened up about her condition, revealing that her symptoms had affected parts of her face and caused muscle weakness that made it difficult for her to support her neck.

“It’s been a real roller coaster these past months,” she wrote. “I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis, which has made building muscle a real struggle. But I’m so thankful for the strength I’ve found. Thank you @coach.iya.”

In the months that followed, Sunshine documented her fitness and recovery journey on social media while focusing on her health, family, and personal well-being.

Last May, she shared another milestone with fans after receiving clearance from her neurologist to return to work.

“Just got my clearance from my neurologist. After three years, cleared and ok na to shoot for an upcoming series.”

Meanwhile, fans and friends were quick to celebrate Sunshine’s return to acting in the comments section.

“Happy for you sis!!! Sayang naman ang ganda if you stay away,” Donita Rose commented.

Beauty queen Krishnah Gravidez also commented, “Congrats Ms. Shine!!! Panoorin ko ‘to.” (Push Team)
