BACOLOD City – One person was killed while several others, including minors, were injured in three separate vehicular accidents in different parts of Negros Occidental on Saturday, July 18, police reported.
The fatality was recorded in Pulupandan town after a collision between a RUSI DL 150 Sprinter motorcycle and a Honda motorcycle with a sidecar along the Negros South Road in Barangay Crossing Pulupandan at around 10:15 p.m.
Police identified the victim as a 53-year-old tricycle driver from Valladolid.
Initial investigation showed that the motorcycle with sidecar allegedly crossed the roadway abruptly, causing it to collide with the oncoming motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old construction worker from Bacolod City, who was traveling from Hinigaran toward Bago City.
Both drivers were thrown onto the pavement and were rushed by responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to Valladolid District Hospital.
The tricycle driver was declared dead at 10:24 p.m. due to cardiogenic shock secondary to multiple traumatic injuries, while the other motorcyclist survived the crash.
Police impounded the two vehicles as the investigation continues.
Earlier that day, at around 10:30 a.m., a head-on collision involving a Mitsubishi aluminum van and a Kawasaki Bajaj tricycle occurred at Crossing Andualuan in Barangay Andualuan, Ilog.
According to police, the van was traveling northbound toward Kabankalan City when the tricycle, allegedly driven by a 16-year-old minor, lost control and swerved into the opposite lane, resulting in the collision.
The minor driver and his four passengers—a 42-year-old man and three children aged 9, 7, and 5—sustained injuries and were taken by the Ilog Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Rescue Team to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City for treatment.
The van driver was unharmed and was taken into police custody for proper disposition pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a separate incident in Hinoba-an at around 12:30 p.m., three female teenagers suffered minor injuries after the motorcycle they were riding crashed in Sitio Manalimsim, Barangay Pook.
Police said the 18-year-old student driving the motorcycle told investigators that she lost control after a stray dog suddenly crossed the road, causing the vehicle to topple.
She and her two 17-year-old passengers were brought by the MDRRMO personnel to Hinoba-an District Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged as outpatients.
Authorities were conducting separate investigations into the three road accidents./PN
