ILOILO — The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) intensified its campaign against illegal quarrying, impounding 10 trucks in just one week of province-wide enforcement operations that targeted transporters and operators accused of violating quarrying regulations.
Records from the IPPO showed that the apprehensions were made from July 19 to 25 through the agency’s Task Force Overloading, which conducted coordinated operations across several municipalities to curb illegal quarry activities.
The municipalities with the highest number of apprehensions were Cabatuan, Barotac Nuevo, and Leon, with two trucks each impounded. Lambunao, New Lucena, Zarraga, and Dueñas each accounted for one apprehension.
Authorities said the most common violations committed by drivers and quarry operators included the absence of hauling contracts, tampered delivery receipts, misdeclared entries, and water dripping from transported materials, all in violation of the Revised Revenue Code.
IPPO director Colonel Bayani Razalan attributed the latest accomplishments to the provincial police’s intensified anti-illegal quarry operations and assured the public that enforcement efforts would continue.
“We will continue to operate against illegal quarry in our area and we are asking the help of the community to inform us if they have an information about illegal quarry,” said Razalan.
Razalan also appealed to residents to support the campaign by reporting suspected illegal quarry activities, saying public cooperation is vital in protecting the province’s natural resources and ensuring that quarry operations comply with the law./PN
