BACOLOD City – A 17-year-old senior high school student has accused a teacher of physically assaulting him inside a school in southern Negros Occidental, an allegation that has prompted calls for an investigation.
The complaint was aired through a legal affairs radio program, where the student narrated the alleged incident that occurred last week.
According to the student, he entered an empty classroom while his classmates were outside and was looking through a window when the teacher allegedly emerged from a nearby restroom.
The student claimed the teacher suddenly splashed him with water before throwing a plastic chair at him.
He further alleged that as he attempted to leave the classroom, the teacher chased him and repeatedly struck him with the plastic chair, causing swelling on his arm and leaving him drenched.
The student also claimed that later the same day, as students were heading home, the teacher allegedly chased several students while carrying what appeared to be a hammer.
Despite the alleged incident, the student said he later met with the teacher to discuss the matter. During the meeting, the teacher allegedly apologized, but the student said he declined to accept the apology.
As of press time, the teacher has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegations.
The identities of the student and the teacher, as well as the name of the school and its exact location, are being withheld to protect the minor involved and to ensure fairness while the allegations are being verified and the teacher is given an opportunity to respond.
Authorities have yet to announce whether a formal complaint has been filed or if an official investigation has been initiated into the incident./PN
