BACOLOD City — Six individuals were arrested and several firearms and ammunition were seized in six separate police operations across Negros Island on August 18 as the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) intensified its campaign against illegal firearms.
The simultaneous operations in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental targeted suspected violations of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
In Sagay City, personnel of the Sagay City Police Station arrested a 47-year-old construction worker identified by the alias “Talang” during a search warrant operation in Barangay Bulanon at about 5:38 a.m.
Police recovered a .45 Colt 1911 pistol, one magazine, and five rounds of .45-caliber ammunition.
At around 6:05 a.m., police in Silay City arrested alias “Jor,” 59, also a construction worker, during a search at a bodega in Barangay Lantad. Authorities seized a .38 Smith & Wesson revolver loaded with two rounds of ammunition and a brown bag.
In Victorias City, alias “Totoy,” 24, was arrested at about 6:20 a.m. during a search in Purok Nipa, Barangay 6. Police recovered a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
In Negros Oriental, personnel of the Sibulan Municipal Police Station, together with the Negros Oriental Provincial Intelligence Team and PRO-NIR Regional Intelligence Unit, arrested alias “Bry,” 51, during a search at the Airport Area in Purok 3, Barangay Bolocboloc, Sibulan, at about 11:25 a.m.
The operation yielded a .25-caliber Raven Phoenix Arms pistol, a magazine containing five live rounds of .25-caliber ammunition, five additional .25-caliber rounds, and one live .45-caliber round.
At about 4:21 p.m., police in La Carlota City arrested alias “Jerome,” 20, during a search in Bucruz Gamay, Barangay II (Poblacion). Authorities recovered a .38-caliber revolver, four rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, and a black sling bag.
The sixth operation was conducted at about 10:48 p.m. in Barangay Naiba, San Jose, Negros Oriental, where personnel of the San Jose Municipal Police Station and the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company SWAT arrested alias “Rol,” 37.
Police recovered a .38-caliber chrome revolver with a black handle, five live rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, and a medium-sized pouch.
PRO-NIR said the seizures form part of its sustained efforts to prevent illegally possessed firearms from being used in criminal activities and strengthen public safety across the region.
The police regional office emphasized that all six operations were conducted in accordance with established police procedures. The seized firearms and ammunition will undergo forensic and ballistic examinations.
The arrested individuals remain in police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges.
