BACOLOD City — The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) has served a Show Cause Order (SCO) on a tricycle driver allegedly involved in the assault of a traffic enforcer in Himamaylan City.
The SCO was served at around 2:30 p.m. on August 20 at the Barangay 3 People’s Hall by personnel of the LTO-NIR Intelligence and Investigation Unit, with assistance from the LTO Himamaylan office.
The respondent was identified as the tricycle driver seen in a viral video allegedly punching a local traffic enforcer during a confrontation reportedly triggered by a roadside parking violation on August 19.
According to the LTO, the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. behind Himamaylan Central School, where the driver was allegedly reprimanded for parking along the roadside.
The confrontation reportedly escalated when the driver allegedly punched the traffic enforcer, causing an injury to the latter’s mouth.
The driver is currently under police custody at the Himamaylan City Police Station, while the traffic enforcer is preparing to file a formal complaint in connection with the incident.
Through the SCO, the respondent is required to explain his alleged actions and show cause why appropriate administrative sanctions should not be imposed under applicable transportation laws and regulations.
The LTO-NIR said the action underscores its commitment to road safety, accountability and proper enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.
The agency also reminded motorists and public transport operators that compliance with traffic regulations and respect for traffic enforcers are essential to maintaining safe, orderly and disciplined roads./PN
