
BACOLOD City — A seven-year-old girl drowned while swimming with her siblings and two other minors at a beach resort in Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, on August 21.
The Hinigaran Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the incident occurred at around 12:20 p.m. at Ma-ay Beach Resort.
The victim, a resident of Remedios Ville in Barangay Gargato, was reportedly swimming with her siblings and two minor neighbors when she accidentally stepped into a deeper portion of the shoreline.
According to the victim’s older sister, identified as alias “Belle,” the group proceeded to the seashore upon arriving at the resort.
The victim reportedly went near the shoreline but was unable to withstand the waves after stepping into deeper water.
Her companions attempted to rescue her but were unsuccessful.
Personnel of the Hinigaran MPS, assisted by other beachgoers, later retrieved the victim from the water and immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The Hinigaran MPS and the Hinigaran Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Rescue Team rushed the victim to the Hinigaran Medical Clinic for medical attention.
Despite the rescue efforts, the attending physician declared the victim dead on arrival./PN
