Drunk man drowns in Sagay City

BACOLOD City – A 25-year-old laborer drowned after reportedly jumping into a deep portion of the Himogaan River in Barangay Bato, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on September 8.

The victim, identified by police only as alias “Renren,” was a resident of the barangay.

According to the Sagay City Police Station, Renren was fishing and drinking liquor with three friends along the riverside at around 5 p.m. when he suddenly jumped into a deep portion of the river.

Police said the victim tried to cling to a large rock but eventually sank into the water.

His companions immediately pulled him out of the river and sought assistance from his family.

The victim was rushed to the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. District Memorial Hospital in Sagay City aboard a barangay vehicle.

Despite efforts to revive him, the attending physician declared Renren dead on arrival./PN
