BACOLOD City — The Bacolod City Government filed a theft complaint Monday, September 14, against a resident of Barangay 16 who was allegedly caught cutting metal railings along the sidewalk in front of Negros Occidental High School (NOHS).
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the suspect was apprehended by personnel of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) at about 1:40 a.m. on September 13, 2026.
The suspect is currently under the custody of Police Station 1.
Gasataya said he believes the suspect may not have acted alone and warned other individuals involved in similar activities that they would eventually be caught.
He also thanked POSO personnel and the police for their alertness, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
The mayor said the incident was part of a pattern involving the theft of decorative metal railings installed along roads in various parts of the city.
Several railings have reportedly been gradually removed, including those installed along the sidewalk in front of NOHS.
The city government is expected to continue monitoring public facilities and infrastructure to prevent further theft and damage./PN
