ILOILO City – The city government is ready to host national sports competitions, declared Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
“Sports organizers should not hesitate to approach the city government. Sports is one of our advocacies,” he said.
Mabilog said hosting sports events is one way of encouraging Iloilo’s youth to engage in them, too.
“Ini para mapalayo sa ilegal nga droga, mga bisyo kag inom ang kabataan. Ini suporta man para sa aton pinalanga nga President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” said Mabilog.
Iloilo City had hosted several national sports competitions in the past such as the Palarong Pambansa.
On Sept. 18, the 2016 National Duathlon Championships: Race for Iloilo River was held here. Last year’s edition of this competition was also here.
This December, the city is hosting the 40th Milo Marathon.
The city’s sports development officer, Rommel Castro, said the city government’s sports priorities are in the right direction.
“Iloilo City is a good venue for sports events. We are the only local government unit that can host boat racing and duathlon, among others. We have a good road network, we have a clean river, and we have a good number of hotels to accommodate participants,” said Castro./PN
