BACOLOD City – Armando Tubongbanua has resigned as Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said.
Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod City Police Office’s Public Safety Company, will take over as officer-in-charge.
Tubongbanua’s resignation takes effect on Oct. 1. He formally tendered his resignation on Sept. 23, said the mayor.
“There must be an offer or something. I did not ask,” Leonardia said when pressed for Tubongbanua’s reason. “[But] he (Tubongbanua) said as long as he is around, he is willing to help us.”
He assured of a “smooth transition” at the BTAO. “They (Tubongbanua and Acebuche) will work together until Sept. 30.”
Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo, city police director, already approved of Acebuche’s new concurrent designation, said the mayor.
Tubongbanua disclosed he stepped down because of a “meeting” he will have in October. He did not elaborate.
After retiring from the police service in March, he accepted the job as BTAO head to improve the traffic situation, he said.
Tubongbanua said he submitted to Leonardia the final traffic plan for the MassKara Festival.
Serving the city government for three months is enough, said Tubongbanua.
Leonardia thanked Tubongbanua for his valuable contributions.
He described Acebuche as a “MassKara veteran who was the Police Station 1 commander when the festival had zero crime.”
His familiarity with the traffic situation in the city made him a “very positive addition to the team,” Leonardia said./PN
