BACOLOD City – City officials will look into what the Ceres bus operator claimed to be a terminal of colorum vans on Lopez Jaena Street, Barangay 30.
Operators of colorum (without franchise) vans use the “space and facility” of DPL Rent a Car & Tours / DPL Airport Shuttle Services, Vallacar Transit, Inc. branch manager Rene Macasa wrote Councilor Dindo Ramos.
The area “is being utilized as a terminal not merely for airport shuttle services but also for trips bound [for] southern Negros, thereby contributing to the proliferation of colorum vans,” said Macasa.
Ramos, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on transportation, said a committee hearing at 10 a.m. on Friday will discuss the matter.
The city government does not allow the operation of vehicles without franchise, he said. “It is an insult to the city officials.”
The City Legal Office may help look into the matter, said Joselito Bayatan.
It will check if the terminal has a business permit. If there is none, the terminal must stop operating, the city legal officer said.
In his letter, the Vallacar Transit official said the local government, through the Sangguniang Panlungsod, can regulate the use of streets, the traffic, as well as the operation of transport terminals.
A city ordinance prohibits colorum vehicles, while the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office has a task force that goes after them, said Ramos. He said passengers on board colorum vehicles have “no security.”/PN
