SAN JOSE, Antique – There is plenty of rice buffer stocks for Antique province, said National Food Authority (NFA) regional director Rex Estoperez.
Estoperez said NFA’s Antique provincial office could not meet its target in terms of rice procurement for the year, but with the ongoing harvest of rice from other provinces in the region, the province is assured of buffer stocks.
NFA-Antique planned to procure 50,000 bags for this year but during the first cropping season, it bought only 2,700 bags from farmers.
”I don’t think NFA Antique can meet the target,” said Estoperez, attributing the low turnout to climate change that affected the harvest.
For the entire Western Visayas region, he said there is almost one million bags of rice for buffer stocks and these could be shared to Antique. (PNA)
