ILOILO City – A police officer of the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Mandurriao station faces possible dismissal from the service.
Police Officer 1 Ronan Florentino is currently under investigation. Two detained drug pushing suspects were allegedly enjoying “special treatment” and he was behind it.
Florentino was relieved from his post on Saturday, according to Mandurriao police chief Senior Inspector Adolfo Pagharion. He was reassigned temporarily to the Iloilo City Public Safety Company.
The two drug suspects were linked to the Prevendido drug group – Alfredo Prevendido and Norberto Prevendido Jr. of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
Arrested in July, they were believed to be subgroup leaders of Richard Prevendido, a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-identified suspected big-time drug lord.
Norberto was No. 3 in the Mandurriao police station’s list of suspected drug personalities.
“We do not give special treatment to inmates, especially those caught for illegal drugs,” said Pagharion.
According to the Mandurriao police chief, several times time after returning to the police station after patrolling, he caught Florentino letting the Prevendidos and other inmates out of their cell.
A review of the police station’s security camera recordings also showed Florentino received something from the Prevendidos before they were allowed to leave their cell, added Pagharion.
“Our intelligence personnel and desk officers also attest to seeing the inmates being allowed to get out of their cell. This is a clear violation of our regulations,” said Pagharion./PN
