ILOILO City – The Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (RAIDSOTG) charged with obstruction of justice Barangay Captain Keith Espinosa of Monica Blumentritt, City Proper.
Espinosa is the wife of drug suspect Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa Jr. RAIDSOTG raided their house on Oct. 2.
In his complaint fled before the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas, RAIDSOTG chief Superintendent Ramir Gallardo claimed the barangay captain refused to sign the certification as witness in the implementation of the search warrant against her husband and the certification as witness in the inventory of seized shabu.
RAIDSOTG cops recovered seven sachets of shabu, guns and ammunitions from the Espinosa house.
Gallardo also charged Espinosa with grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a public official and irregularity in the performance of duty under Sections 3 (a) of Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act).
Also named as respondents were Barangay Monica Blumentritt councilmen Arturo Atinado and Amadeo Atinado. They, too refused to serve as witnesses, complained Gallardo.
RAIDSOTG raided the four-storey house of the Espinosas early morning of Oct. 2 but failed to arrest Jesus Jr.
The barangay captain’s husband ranked No. 2 in the Iloilo City Police Office – Police Station 1’s list of suspected drug personalities in the City Proper.
RAIDTG secured two search warrants for illegal drugs and illegal guns from Judge Vicente Go of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 68.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency identified Jesus Jr. as a drug suspect and linked him to slain suspected drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr.
RAIDTG operatives recovered the following from the Espinosa house:
* seven sachets of shabu
* .45 pistol with serial number C232884-3
* magazines with 30 rounds of ammunitions
* three black holsters
* .9mm pistol with serial number H81167 and expired permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR)
* magazine with 22 ammunitions, and
* P25,955 cash.
Barangay Captain Espinosa, however, questioned the raid. She claimed the raiders switched off their house’s security cameras.
“Gin patay nila amon CCTV…Sila mismo makahambal kun amon gid na,” she said.
If the village chief were to be believed, RAIDTG operatives “planted” the sachets of shabu they supposedly recovered from the house./PN
