ILOILO City – A drunken police officer shot a karaoke bar owner and the latter’s helper in Barangay Loong, Concepcion, Iloilo.
Police Officer 1 JV Longno of the Regional Public Safety Battalion was detained at the lockup cell of the Concepcion police station following Friday night’s shooting.
The 44-year-old John Namod died of a gunshot wound on the head while helper Lindy Franco, 52, was wounded on the left foot.
Franco was treated at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.
The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Longno was with several female companions singing while binge drinking at Namod’s karaoke bar, said Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, Concepcion police chief.
Longno got angry when Franco told them to stop, citing a curfew. An argument flared up, said Pinuela.
Namod tried to pacify the two but failed.
Longno used his service firearm, a .9mm pistol, to shoot Franco then Namod.
The policeman fled after the shooting but after three hours turned himself in to his superior, Inspector Rico Sta. Ana.
Longno also surrendered his .9mm pistol.
Pinuela said Longno faces murder and frustrated murder charges./PN
