ILOILO City – Ayala Land, Inc. donated the key to a P2.2-million facility to the Leon Ganzon Polytechnic College (LGPC) in Balasan, to support technical-vocational trainings.
Vocational School Superintendent Esther Babalo and staff of the college accepted the symbolic key during the Regional Launching Ceremony of “Barangay Kasanayan para sa Kabuhayan at Kapayapaan” on Oct. 19 at the Iloilo City Diamond Jubilee Hall.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) director general or secretary Guiling Mamondiong headed the launching ceremony.
TESDA signed a memorandum of agreement with Ayala Land Inc. for the donation of a training facility to the college in exchange for free training to an approximate 400 beneficiaries on April 29.
According to Babalo, the beneficiaries were identified by Ayala Land and preferred training programs are related to hospitality, culinary, food processing and other tourism-related fields.
“I was informed that Ayala is going to develop the island of Sicogon into a tourist destination and this is part of their preparation for the people that will be affected by the tourism development project, so that these people will become workers in the facilities they are going to build in the island,” said Babalo.
The one-story facility was completed in September. The college is now furnishing it with equipment, fixtures and other things needed to be able to start the trainings.
“The new facility is a big help to the school as they can now focus their attention on the trainings since their old training venue which was also destroyed by typhoon ‘Yolanda’ needs repair from time to time,” said Babalo.
TESDA accredited training center, the college’s service area, covers the entire fifth district of Iloilo including the municipalities of Pilar, President Roxas, Maayon and Pontevedra, in Capiz province. (With a report from PIA/PN)
