BORACAY – This world-famous island resort earned a new distinction from an international publication, and the lead tourism officer in Malay, Aklan believes the front-liners should get partial credit.
Lifestyle and luxury magazine Condé Nast Traveler has identified Boracay as the world’s best island for 2016.
Two other Philippine islands made it to the Top 10 islands outside of the United States that got high ratings from more than 300,000 leisure and business travelers: Palawan on second place and Cebu on fifth place.
According to Traveler, Boracay is an “itty-bitty island in Southeast Asia with gentle coastlines, transporting sunsets and thriving nightlife scene, and powdery white sand and shallow azure water ideal for swimming and snorkeling.”
The islands were rated from April 1 to July 16 for the magazine’s 29th Readers’ Choice Awards.
“The Condé Nast award means tourists were satisfied in their travel experience — from their arrival and departure to the services of hotels, resorts and restaurants,” said Malay’s Chief Tourism Operations Officer Felix Gregorio delos Santos.
Delos Santos lauded the tourism front-liners for helping enhance the image of Boracay.
Front-liners are tour guides, tricycle and tourist van drivers, boatmen, vendors, hotel workers, among others who constantly interact with tourists.
“The Department of Tourism, private stakeholders and local government units are also involved in the aggressive promotion of Boracay and the program to help front-liners improve customer service,” he said.
He believes the other factors that contributed to the recognition were services at health and wellness spa clinics, sea sports, land and aerial tours, and peace and order.
Boracay is aiming to take in 1.7 million tourists this year. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
