BACOLOD City – Three hundred traffic enforcers will be detailed in cemeteries to manage vehicular traffic during All Saints’ and All Souls’ days on Nov. 1 and 2.
Half of them will take the 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift while the other half will be on duty from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight, said Superintendent Luisito Acebuche officer-in-charge of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office.
More enforcers will be deployed to Burgos Cemetery, especially on Nov. 1, when most visitors come, the BTAO said.
Starting 12 midnight before Nov. 1, Burgos Street along Burgos Cemetery will be closed.
According to Acebuche, this will discourage ambulant vendors — who usually cause traffic — from coming in.
The city government will provide a designated area for the vendors from Nov. 1 to 2.
All public utility vehicles (PUVs) going east to west shall pass by BBB Street going to Galo, then turn right to Lopez Jaena Street.
On the other hand, PUVs going west to east shall pass by Ilac Street along Police Station 4 going to 3rd or 4th roads, the BTAO said.
Acebuche appealed to the public, especially motorists, to be patient and expect roads near cemeteries to be crowded.
Meanwhile Acebuche recommended that Mayor Evelio Leonardia dismiss five job-order casual traffic enforcers assigned at the Libertad area.
They were caught in a drinking spree and singing videoke while in uniform in a restaurant at the Negros First CyberCentre.
They were still in their uniform when apprehended on Oct. 25. Acebuche said the enforcers were supposed to be on duty at the time.
He refused to name the traffic enforcers./PN
