BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government has proposed a P2,931,912,000 annual budget for 2017.
Of the amount P1,889,812,491 was allocated for Special Purpose Appropriations, P669,042,895 for Personnel Services, and P373,056,614 for Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses.
This year capitol was operating on a P2.8-billion budget.
Sources for the proposed 2017 budget were P2,830,000,000 in Internal Revenue Allotment, P65,927,000 in tax revenue and P35,985,000 in nontax revenue.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Salvador Escalante Jr. said they will start deliberating the proposed budget by the end of November or first week of December.
The Provincial Board aims to approve the budget by second or third week of December, he said.
“The preparation of the budget has undergone a thorough adjustment as a result of the adjustment in the share of the 2017 Internal Revenue Allotment,” Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said in his Budget Message to the Provincial Board.
Marañon urged the Board members to “continue the implementation of various programs and projects, and the delivery of basic and essential services to improve the quality of life of our people.”
“Let us remember always that it is our responsibility to sustain their fullest development to eliminate poverty and promote economic growth, and make them more effective partners in the attainment of our goals,” he said./PN
