MANILA – The Mahindra Floodbuster is slowly picking apart the lineup that made possible its first-ever PBA playoffs appearance as an upstart two-year history franchise in the last Governor’s Cup.
After shipping Rommel Niño Canaleta to the GlobalPort Batang Pier via free agency, the Floodbuster on Wednesday traded away veteran forward Aldrech Ramos and Keith Agovida in two separate deals.
Ramos, who is one of the team’s more consistent local players, has been sent to the Star Hotshots in exchange for Alex Mallari. Agovida, on the other hand, was handed to the San Miguel Beermen for reserve guard Ryan Araña.
A source told Panay News that the Floodbuster is now finalizing another trade deal that will send 6-foot-8 center Bradwyn Guinto to the NLEX Road Warriors in exchange for a still undetermined player.
Also reportedly on his way out of the Floodbuster camp is Juan Paolo Taha, who is reportedly bound for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in a three-team trade that will send Nico Salva to the Meralco Bolts.
Curiously, Canaleta, Ramos, Taha and Agovida carried the scoring cudgels for the Floodbuster (then known as Enforcer) along with import James White during the last Governor’s Cup. Guinto, meanwhile, is their leading local rebounder.
During the PBA Draft, the Floodbuster enlisted Russel Escoto, Joseph Eriobu, Cedrick Ablaza, Jan Jamon, and Paolo Pontejos. They also acquired sophomore guard Josan Nimes from the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on the same day.
The Floodbuster drew the ire of PBA fans for its dubious trade deals in the last two years after bartering Jeth Troy Rosario to TNT Katropa for Canaleta and Ramos. The team had also released Nard John Pinto to the Blackwater Elite without anything in return./PN
