ILOILO – A 10-wheeler truck hit a house in Barangay Jalaud Norte, Zarraga town around 12: 55 a.m. yesterday. Fortunately, 82-year-old house owner Lucia Launio was not hurt.
According to 43-year-old driver Marvin Hechanova of Murcia, Negros Occidental, he lost control of the truck.
Hechanova was detained at the Zarraga police station but released yesterday afternoon.
The 10-wheeler truck was loaded with bags of cement. It was on its way to northern Iloilo.
Aside from Launio’s house, the truck also damaged the garage of her niece, Mary Jane Silvela.
According to Silvela, she was surfing the internet when she heard tires screeching followed by a thunderous bang. She went out of her house to check what happened.
The air outside was thick with haze.
“I thought there was fire. Gali semento man lang nga nag tap-ok,” said Silvela.
She was thankful her aunt was unharmed.
“Na-trap lang siya. Nagasingitan siya nga pagwa-on. Paano pagwa-on kay guba ana nga pertahan, napintalan. Ti sa bintana siya gin paagi,” said Silvela.
She and Launion won’t press charges but asked the driver and truck operator to fix their damaged properties./PN
