MANILA – The F2 Logistics Cargo Movers clinched its second straight victory in the 2016 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 win over the Generika Lifesavers on Saturday night at the San Juan Arena.
Reinforcement Hayley Spelman led the way with 23 points, on 21 attacks and two blocks, for the All-Filipino Conference titlist Cargo Movers, which surged to a 2-2 win-loss slate.
From a tight start early in the opening set, the Cargo Movers surged to an 11-8 lead behind Ilongga Abigail Maraño. Errors by the Life Savers widened the Cargo Movers’ advantage to 16-9.
The Life Savers rallied to within 17-14 but the Cargo Movers surged to a 23-17 lead behind Kim Fajardo and Maraño. After consecutive hits by the Life Savers, the Cargo Movers closed the opening set with hits from Mika Reyes and Spelman.
Both teams went on another tight exchange in the second set but the Cargo Movers pulled to an 11-7 lead behind Spelman. Hits from Spelman and Sydney Kemper increased the Cargo Movers edge to 16-11.
Errors by the Life Savers followed by back-to-back hits by Cha Cruz widened the Cargo Movers lead to 20-13. The Life Savers made its last push to tie the count at 22-all but hits from Spelman, Maraño and Reyes gave the set to the Cargo Movers.
From an early 5-all score, the Cargo Movers jumped to an 8-5 lead in the third frame on back-to-back aces by Fajardo. The match went on another tie at 12-all but back-to-back attacks by Spelman gave the Cargo Movers a 16-15 edge.
The Life Savers kept the game close anew but a backrow hit by Spelman followed by attacks from Reyes gave the Cargo Movers a 22-17 lead. Three more hits from Spelman clinched the win for the Cargo Movers.
In the other match, defending champion Foton Tornadoes cruised to a 25-23, 25-19, 25-21 straight set win over the RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers. The Tornadoes improved its win-loss record to 3-0 as the Lady Troopers slid down to 1-2./PN
