BACOLOD City – Councilor Em Ang is pushing for an increase in the allowance of barangay health workers (BHWs).
Ang’s proposal will amend Section 4 of City Ordinance No. 623 series of 2012.
The BHWs’ current monthly allowance is only between P2,000 and P3,500. Ang wants to raise this to P4,000.
The BHWs are “front-liners who provide health care services and programs to make sure the population is healthy,” said the chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on health.
But their current allowance is “not sufficient to cover their transportation expenses in the performance of their duties and responsibilities and while transacting with different government offices,” Ang said.
Increasing their allowance will “cushion the increases in the prices of basic commodities,” among their other expenses while on duty, she said./PN
