ILOILO City – The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) launched the AmBisyon Natin 2040 program yesterday at the RDC Conference Hall, NEDA-6 Building, Fort San Pedro.
AmBisyon Natin is a national program by NEDA which envisions the kind of lives Filipinos want to live and represents the aspirations Filipinos have for themselves and for the country in the next 25 years.
Ro-Ann Bacal, regional director of NEDA-6, revealed the agency’s vision for every Filipino family by 2040 as living a “simple and comfortable life” with a car of their own, a medium-sized house, college-educated children and with enough savings to get by every day.
This vision was a result of a country-wide consultative process through focus group discussions, technical studies, communication and advocacy and a national survey which showed 79.2 percent of Filipinos preferring a middle-class lifestyle as to an affluent lifestyle.
The survey also revealed that Filipinos consider hunger, local employment, poverty and housing as primary economic issues that should be addressed and that there is a need for a clean, efficient and service-oriented government with the eradication of corruption as the most important aspect of government service that should be resolved.
Moreover, supervising economic development specialist of NEDA-6 Othelo Derecho disclosed the agency’s current efforts in the preparation of the Western Visayas Regional Development Plan for 2017 to 2022 which include a prepared assessment report of the Western Visayas Regional Development Plan from 2010 to 2016; focus group discussions with planning committees composed of different government sector representatives and with migrant groups; and the consultation with private sector groups, the academe and varying planning officers.
Ma. Theresa Guadalupe, chief of the NEDA-6 development research division, closed the launching with the statement, “Indeed, ambition starts with every person, with every family. By doing so, we need to help each other and leave no man behind. After all, we are all in this together. Walang sinuman ang namumuhay para sa sarili lang. Let us start our journey, our journey to a situation where no one is hungry, where no one is always afraid because of uncertainties. Let us aspire for a life where we are comfortable, where food is always available and affordable, where there is peace and harmony and everyone can sleep soundly without having to worry what tomorrow may bring.”/PN
