ILOILO City – Rasty Jablo of Jaro district wanted the public to know who killed his brother.
So while in General Santos City on Thursday, he took a six-month-old baby hostage and demanded media attention.
Jablo is the husband of Desamparados, Jaro barangay captain Noemi.
He identified his brother Carcar’s killer as “the drug lord Prevendido,” a General Santos City policeman told RMN-Iloilo in an interview.
The hostage-taking transpired around 5:45 p.m. at Police Precinct 4, said Police Officer 1 Roel Aparoso.
In Barangay San Isidro where he was staying, Jablo took the child his second cousin Edesa was attending to and brought it to the police station, which was around 3 kilometers away, said Aparoso.
When he reached the police station, Jablo pointed a knife at the baby. “Dito na nagkaroon ng medyo komusyon,” Aparoso said.
Jablo looked for news media reporters and asked that he be put on the air because he had information to disclose.
“Sabi niya ang pumatay sa kanyang kapatid na si Carcar na binaril noong Oct. 8 is iyong drug lord sa Iloilo City [na si Prevendido],” said Aparoso.
Carcar was shot to death by motorcycle-riding gunmen. Jaro police were looking into business rivalry, personal grudges and illegal drugs as possible motives.
After speaking to reporters, Jablo turned over the baby to the police. The baby was unhurt.
He was detained at Police Precinct 4. He will be charged with serious illegal detention and child abuse.
Jablo will not be forced to return here, Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, regional director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, told Panay News.
“Wala naman siyang haharapin na kaso dito, unless lumabas iyong warrant of arrest niya for illegal possession of firearms,” Tayaba told this reporter.
On Nov. 4 police raided Jablo’s house in Sitio Little Janiuay, Barangay Cubay, Jaro and found unlicensed .38 and .45 pistols and four ammunition.
Only Barangay Captain Noemi was present at the time. She denied owning the firearms found in their house.
“Wala ko kabalo ngaa may amo na nga mga pusil da. Nakibot lang ko nga ara na sa idalom freezer,” she told a radio interview./PN
