ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will soon start Phase II of its road rehabilitation project in Molo district.
From asphalt, the right portion of Infante Street will be changed to concrete, according to City District Engineer Rodney Gustilo.
The road is now full of potholes.
“Ang road rehabilitation dira lapit sa Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital. Part pa na siya sang road project nga nakumpleto a few months,” Gustilo told Panay News.
Phase I was the rehabilitation of Rizal Street, City Proper near Barangay Tanza Timawa Zone II.
The road rehabilitation, which costs P13 million, will be undertaken by the Iloilo City District Engineering Office.
The rehabilitation should have started a few months ago. However, the city government held it in abeyance, citing the ongoing road project on Delgado Street that was causing inconvenience to commuters.
“We understand. The city government is wary of the traffic congestion. Now tapos na didto (Delgado) so amo na ni,” said Gustilo.
The excavation of started yesterday. Target date of completion is this Dec.7, said Gustilo.
The half lane of the right portion of Infante Street will be closed to traffic.
Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) which pass Infante Street are Leganes Highway, Villa (Mohon terminal), Ungka ITGSI, and some provincial jeepneys going to the Iloilo Terminal Market.
“We appeal for the public’s patience,” said Gustilo.
After the right portion of Infante Street is finished, the rehabilitation of the left portion will follow. The budget is P13 million because it is much longer, said Gustilo.
Target date of completion is this Dec. 30./PN
