ROXAS City – So we’re back to square one.
There won’t be a “Sinadya sa Halaran” this year, according to a senior official at the City Tourism Office.
“It’s final. This year’s celebration will be dubbed only ‘Sinadya,’ without the word ‘Halaran,’” said Angelique “Alger” Inocencio.
Citing “lack of planning” and “necessary coordination” on the part of the Roxas City government, the Capiz provincial government has withdrawn its participation in the annual festival.
This leaves city hall alone in handling civic activities, which add color to what has been a mostly religious celebration, from Dec. 5 to 8.
The Catholic church, through the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral, has been handling all religious activities.
“Except for religious activities, the highlight of the festivity is the Sadsad sa Kalye, which will be participated by the 47 barangays of this city,” said Inocencio.
Sinadya sa Halaran is a merging of the festivals Sinadya and Halaran, originally separately held by Roxas City and Capiz province, respectively.
First held from Dec. 1 to 8, 1992, the annual festival connoting the joys of sharing had a four-year interval from 1993 to 1997./PN
