BORACAY – Poor senior citizens in Western Visayas continue getting their third-quarter social pension, an officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development said.
A total of P89,538,000 is now being distributed to 59,692 qualified elderly residents in Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras provinces, according to Social Welfare Officer I Harriete Yatar.
The Social Welfare department said the third-quarter payout started in July yet through door-to-door PHLPost delivery.
Qualified to receive P500 in monthly social pension from the government are Filipinos who are:
* 60 years old and above
* sickly, frail and/or with disability
* lacking regular source of income
* lacking financial support/assistance from family members
* lacking pension
Including those from Negros Occidental, a total of 78,706 senior citizens from Western Visayas are qualified for the social pension. A total of P472,236,000 has been allotted for them this year. (PNA)
