MANILA – With only a few weeks left before Christmas, Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to immediately settle salary dues and other benefits for public school teachers.
In his letter to Sec. Leonor Briones dated Dec. 2, 2016, Aquino said that some teachers have yet to be paid their salaries and bonuses.
“Nais ko pong ipakiusap na madaliin sana ang paglabas ng suweldo, bonus at iba pang benepisyo na nakalaan para sa ating mga guro upang maging maligaya ang pagdiriwang nila ng Pasko, kasama ang kanilang mga mahal sa buhay,” the senator said.
“Batid ko na ang iba pa ay kulang pa ng requirements ngunit marami sa kanila ay kumpleto na ang dokumento at nagihihintay na lang sa paglabas ng suweldo.”
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Aquino has been pushing for measures that will provide Filipino teachers incentives and other forms of support.
Aquino earlier filed Senate Bill No. 173, or the “Free Education for Children of Public School Teachers Act” offering children of public school teachers enrolled in state universities and colleges free education.
The bill provides for full subsidy program covering 100 percent of the tuition and other miscellaneous expenses necessary upon the enrolment of the students in a state college of university./PN
