BACOLOD City – Fifty-seven couples in Murcia, Negros Occidental tied the knot in a mass wedding officiated by Mayor Andrew Montelibano.
The event was in time for the town’s annual Tinabu-ay Festival and the Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion.
This year’s local government-initiated mass wedding had fewer couples compared to the previous years’, which would have almost 130.
“This was because the Church also held its own mass wedding, something it has not done in the past,” Montelibano said.
Still, the mayor said he was happy for his constituents who dreamed of getting married in church and did Thursday, Dec. 8.
The local government has been initiating mass civil wedding on Dec. 8 of every year since Montelibano became mayor in 2010.
The event this year was held at the town’s gymnasium.
Aside from giving them tokens, he said the local government also presented the newlyweds surprises and awards to make their wedding memorable./PN
