ILOILO City – The former president of Ajuy, Iloilo’s Liga ng mga Barangay faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Around 2:40 p.m. yesterday Ajuy policemen and operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6 raided the house of Ernesto Balbaguio, 58, in Barangay Tanduyan, Ajuy.
They found an ITAKA 1911 pistol (serial number 522818), an Armscor .45 pistol (serial number 71108981) and a Taurus .45 pistol (serial number 05036).
Assorted ammunitions (for .45, M16 rifle, and .9mm) were also recovered.
The raiding team secured a search warrant from Judge Rogelio J. Amador of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 66 on Dec. 13.
According to Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, chief of CIDG-6, they received information that the firearms from Balbaguio’s house were owned by a high-value drug target of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Rolando “Apa” Torpio of Barangay South San Jose, Molo, Iloilo City.
Balbaguio failed to present documents to prove the legality of the recovered firearms.
Tayaba also said Balbaguio, former barangay captain of Tanduyan, Ajuy, was a drug suspect himself.
He expressed confidence that “the firearm seizures would lessen the armaments of illegal drug traders those engaged in other illegal activities.”
Balbaguio was detained at the CIDG detention facility.
Torpio, meanwhile, was locked up at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Potoan, Iloilo. He was arrested early this year for illegal drug possession and peddling./PN
