ILOILO City – A barangay councilman suspected of trafficking shabu was arrested yesterday in Barangay Jaguimitan, Passi City.

Alphen Palada, 41, of Barangay Pangi, Passi City yielded five sachets of shabu.

Palada initially sold a sachet to an undercover police officer for P300, said Superintendent Ruby Gumban, Passi City police chief.

The suspect turned himself in to the police just this July after the Philippine National Police launched its Oplan Double Barrel against illegal drugs, said Gumban.

“We, however, recently received information that he resumed his illegal drug trade,” the police chief revealed.

During yesterday’s buy-bust operation around 7:45 a.m., Palada tried to run after realizing he was being entrapped, said Gumban.

Palada was detained at the Passi City police station. He faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, Iloilo police director, hailed the Passi City police for Palada’s arrest./PN
