ILOILO City – A female gunrunning suspect and a companion fell in an entrapment operation of the police’s Regional Special Operation Unit (RSOU) in Barangay Bitoon, Jaro district.
Belen Cubero Lico, 52, and Domingo Boctong, 58, were detained at the district police station on Dec. 13 around 11 a.m.
RSOU personnel bought from the suspects a .45 pistol and a .9mm pistol for P27,000.
According to Regional Intelligence Division chief Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), the two guns were personally handed to undercover policemen by Lico herself.
Lico was placed under surveillance for a month prior to the entrapment, said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson.
Citing intelligence information, Gorero said Lico sourced the firearms from Cebu.
“She tasked Domingo to look for buyers,” Gorero said.
This was the third time Lico was arrested for gunrunning, he added.
“Lico was able to post bail for two previous gunrunning cases,” said Gorero.
Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director, congratulated his men for arresting the suspects.
The entrapment operation was part of the PRO-6’s campaign against loose firearms, he said.
