ILOILO – Schools in Western Visayas were encouraged to put up an “Environmental Board” on their respective websites.
The Envi Board shall promote environment-friendly messages and/or actions, according to Laorenz Poel Maquinto, information officer for the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 6.
It will “[raise] environmental awareness among students, faculty (members), alumni, and visitors” by “presenting them [information on] climate change, proper solid waste management, air pollution, water conservation, and the like,” he said.
According to Maquinto, a school’s website is a virtual place where members of the school community meet.
“Today almost every school or university has its own website, where school administrators post important information,” he said.
An Envi Board can be a widget, marquee, webpage link, link, photo, or text on the website’s homepage, said Maquinto.
“It can be placed in a way that would not cause too much distraction and take up space,” he said, adding that the message is “preferably precise and direct.”
The EMB, through the Regional Interagency Committee on Environmental Education, will seek help from the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education in encouraging Envi Boards on school websites. (PIA/PN)
