ILOILO City – A fishing boat capsized off Olotayan Island in Roxas City early this week.
Two of the crew members died, 10 were rescued and one remains missing as of this writing, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
Huge waves and strong winds struck FB 3L-XI around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, said Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo.
“Nangisda sila sa Olotayan. Ginhampak sila sang balod sa Curacha Shoal sa tunga-tunga sang Masbate kag Carles (Iloilo), part pa sang Western Visayas,” said Palabrica.
Coastguards from the Roxas City station searched the following day, to no avail. On Wednesday, they found 10 survivors:
* boat captain Richard Dela Cruz Taliadro, 36, of Sitio Nipa, Barangay Culasi, Roxas City
* Robert Deniero, 27, Barangay Libas, Roxas City
* Jearcel Abrero, 28, of Cebu
* Marcos Lim, 28, of Estancia, Iloilo
* Jerry Legarda, 44, of Barangay Culasi, Roxas City
* Romel Luna, 31, of Barangay Culasi, Roxas City
* Junard Lacorte, 31, of Barangay Culasi, Roxas City
* Bert Arellano, 41, of Dumarao, Capiz
* Alejo Doble Jr., 14, of Barangay Culasi, Roxas City
* Gino Itaguban, 21, of Barangay Culasi, Roxas City
It was not until 3 p.m. yesterday when coastguards found the lifeless bodies of Alejo Doble Sr., 56, of Barangay Culasi, Roxas City and Jhong Candilario, 19, of Masbate, Palabrica told Panay News.
Rodel Malabat, 32, of Sitio Nipa, Barangay Culasi, Roxas City was still missing as of this writing.
All the survivors were taken to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital. They were now in a stable condition, said attending physicians Dr. Kay Hazel Duran, Dr. Joevic Belasoto and Dr. Antonio Viray III.
The remains of the casualties were taken to the Coast Guard-Roxas City station. They will be turned over to their respective families.
